I am not one of the individuals who, from a young age, has known exactly what they wanted to do or be when they grew up. I was always envious of others who had a clearer vision… they seemed so driven, passionate, and excited about working hard in order to work even harder the next 40 years! It was like they were almost too excited to leave the collegiate land of learning, frat stars, and the infamous Sixth Street, to embark on a journey to their long ago decided destinations.
When May 2010 reared its little head and a cap sat on mine, my decided destination was one that my parents had picked for me… a place of work!! My Dad wanted a “raise” and my Mom wanted to turn my room at home into an art studio. Awesome.
A month after graduation, my parents got what they wished for and, little did I know, so did I. The Job Genie was on my side and for the past seven months, I have been a Racker. This small amount of time has been more influential, impactful and beneficial to me than most any other time in my life.
I did not only find a “place of work,” I found a culture and people who have quickly become my friends, mentors and motivators.
Slowly, but surely, I am realizing that it’s okay not to have known exactly what I wanted to do all those years. If I had, I may not have ended up here. Since fate landed me at Rackspace, I have had the chance to explore the technology behind our product suite and learn from Rackspace’s greatest resource, an intelligent and jovial breed, Rackers!
It’s from their willingness to share personal experiences, give advice, and show true friendship, that I am continually able to grow personally and professionally.
Concerns about my future are long gone. I am confident that I play an integral role here and I’m eager to see what the future holds! I am in a position where my strengths and interests are aligned, and where I can give back to not only our great company’s bottom line, but to a group of people who are amazing.
I still don’t know exactly what I want to do or be “when I grow up,” but I do know that my career and professional path are becoming clearer every day. I am also comforted in the fact that I am not alone, as I continually receive support and encouragement from people that honestly want to see me succeed.
I am driven, passionate, and excited… about Rackspace!
