To begin with, I am a New Yorker who lived and worked in upstate NY for 10 years, as many of you know. I spent most of my career working at CBORD (great people to work with). Also, I had the opportunity to work in 8 different countries around the globe for companies like Deutsche Bank, UN, Saudi Aramco, Primavera & NIIT. I enjoyed working at all these diverse places, but decided it was time to do something different.
So, I started looking for a change after working on a solid product line for a long time. I got few interesting offers from some software companies, but something inside me was not sure that they were the right opportunities. So I waited… and then, by chance, I got an opportunity to talk to the Email & Apps division in Blacksburg.
During the interview I found myself spending a great deal of time speaking with development leaders about the relative strengths and weaknesses of various products and processes that the Email & Apps division was working on. At the same time, I saw passion, commitment & growth in this company. GROWTH, which is my favorite word, always creates tons of opportunity for all of us. I also started to realize the potential of what they were doing and the unique position they were in.
Rackspace has the clients, tools, languages, frameworks, services, awesome developers, partnerships, desire, growing expertise, and trajectory to solve major problems that customers are increasingly facing. There are many areas to improve – but I really felt that Rackspace was prepared and committed to addressing those challenges. Then I learned about Fanatical Support – Rackspace’s commitment to customers.
As a result, I spent a great deal of time thinking about the details of Email & Apps. Particularly how this product line would be a differentiator in the Rackspace Product portfolio in the long run. The surge to work for Rackspace accelerated following my conversations with Kevin and Pat.
So, finally, I came onboard starting Jan 2010. Rackspace provided me with a great opportunity to contribute, grow, work with passionate rackers and have an overall great time.
Specifically, my passion is spending lots of time working with software developers, development teams and beloved product teams in the constant pursuit of building a world-class line of products. After 20 months here, I have to say that I made the right decision. I enjoy what I am doing and am passionately working on the things I am really interested in.
Also, Blacksburg has lots to offer for raising a family and outdoor activities. Blue Ridge Mountains, Appalachian Trail, Skiing and Snowboarding just a few hours away, Water Sports & Shenandoah National Park and a great College Football team.
Thank you Rackspace for having me as a Racker.
