Rackers

Wardrobe Games – Week 1

Week one is almost in the books and it is time to showcase the T-shirts.  I have realized that this is a great way to learn about the culture of Rackspace because every T-shirt has a story behind it.

In case you missed the launch post for “I Have More Rackspace T-Shirts Than You Do” contest, go ahead and click here first.

Phil White - Day 1Day One: I participated with all of Rackspace in wearing my “No More Servers” shirt.  It emphasizes our belief that our offering isn’t about the servers it is about the service – and more specifically Fanatical Support®.  Our marketing/communications department makes this fun by recognizing someone from each of our locations with a prize for someone “found” wearing the No More Servers shirt.  Somehow they missed me… must have been my highly reflective head.

Day 2 - FanaticismDay Two: Carbon dating couldn’t tell me the age on this shirt, but I think it is vintage 2007 and produced by our talent acquisition team.  We are always on the lookout for great Rackers.  All Rackers are fanatics and this describes what that means.  If this strikes a cord with you—cruise on over to our Rack careers site and see if there is a role that fits your expertise.  We need more Rackers with a sense of fanaticism.

Day 3 - AerosmithDay Three: Affectionately known by some as the “Aerosmith” t-shirt, this lovely ensemble features a 100% cotton construction from our Rack on the Road initiative in 2007.  This is, by far, one of my favorite Rackspace shirts thus far!

Day 4 - 80sDay Four: There were only a few Rackers that recognized this shirt.  It was part of a quarterly kickoff for one of our business units.  In each of these kickoffs we would celebrate the success from the previous quarter and outline the goals for the upcoming quarter.  This particular kickoff had a throwback to the 80s theme.  Later in the parade of shirts—I will tell you about one of my all-time favorites.

Day 5 - CORE ValuesDay Five: Old fashioned Core Values.  We have always been a company centered on and driven by our Core Values.  Circa 2006—this T-shirt was part of the Core Values boot camp where the entire company had competitions focused on each of the six core values.  When you have the opportunity, ask an old school Racker about blindfolded ice cream feeding.  Keep your eyes open for a brand new Core Values shirt next week!

So that completes this week.  The last thing I need to do is clarify the rules of the competition.  I have a few T-shirts in multiple colors—since this is my competition and I get to make the rules, multiple colors count as different shirts.

In the next week or two we hope to open this up to other Rackers so they can post pictures of themselves in Rackspace T-shirts.  Just to be clear—I am still in the lead with 5 consecutive days.

  1. We like to say that Philip’s Top 5 strengths are:
    1. Competition
    2. Competition
    3. Competition
    4. Competition
    5. Competition

He always clarifies “the rules” and talks smack…even on the culture blog! :)

Seriously, though, it has been fun seeing some of those vintage shirts from ’06! Aww, the memories!
