My name is Courtney and I recently volunteered with Habitat for Humanity for a team outing. It was not the first volunteer experience I’ve had but the first experience with HFH and it will definitely not be the last!
The day began with a safety briefing and introductions as well as discussions regarding the plan for the house and what we would be doing. Our Site Manager Clayton did an amazing job of coordinating everyone and keeping the energy up with his touching and funny stories from years of experience. Each person was assigned to a group and that group was given a task to work on, I was in the group putting the siding up on the house.
None of us had prior experience but with guidance from Clayton and help from surrounding HFH groups it was actually pretty easy! The family who was receiving the home was there working side by side with us. It was really amazing to see how much people can accomplish when we work together.
Volunteering for a team outing is a great way to encourage team work and build relationships with your coworkers. In addition, it gives everyone a chance to experience the wonderful feeling you get when you know your hard work will help someone in need.
If you have the chance to volunteer with HFH, whether through work or on your own, you should! You meet some wonderful people and have the satisfaction of knowing you have helped someone realize a dream.
