Here in Blacksburg we are fortunate to have three really great schools close by. Virginia Tech is across the street, Radford University is 15 miles down the road and James Madison University is only 135 miles away. And trust me, well worth the drive!
All three schools have numerous programs of interest for us in the Blacksburg office with Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Business Information Technologies and Secure Software Systems, just to name a few.
We attended three different campus career fairs over the last month. Two fairs were at Virginia Tech and one at JMU.
The Computer Science Resource Consortium career fair was our first. A very large number of computer science and other technology students at VT attended this event. We had a strong representation of Rackspace with five of our Blacksburg Rackers attending and putting their recruiting skills to the test! Brian Hartsock and Zach Layman also represented us on two different panel discussions with Virginia Tech Computer Science students for the second year in a row!
The very next day we had our two university wide career fairs. The Co-Op and Internship fair at VT was a huge success. The fair at JMU was also a big success! Both bringing in numerous resumes from candidates we are interested in pursuing.
Our booth setup looked awesome! A special thank you to the San Antonio office for helping out and sending lots of good collateral our way!
Career Fairs are not the only place we meet quality students. This past month we also attended a company day at Radford and Virginia Tech. Rackers spoke with information technology students at Radford University and obtained resumes from some very qualified students! The Virginia Tech Company day in Pamplin School of Business was also a big success. Our Blacksburg Rackers spoke in classrooms and set up camp in the hallway to give out information and speak with students about what we do.
This week we were fortunate to have two San Antonio Rackers in the office. Danielle Kieschnick and Cindy Stein were in to work with us and welcome our newest addition to the HR team. Leah Leuschner joined us as our Senior Technical Recruiter. Danielle and Leah went along with other Rackers for the beautiful drive up to Northern Virginia where we attended the National Capital Region Job Fair.
I want to send a big thank you out again to everyone who has helped with our recruiting efforts either in-house or at the various events!
I am looking forward to our Racksburg Rush in-house recruiting event on March 18th. At the rush, our keynote speaker will be Pat Matthews! We are looking forward to his trip back to Blacksburg and his help with the event. Stay tuned… I will share all the details after the event!
Meghan Reeves joined Rackspace in January of 2011 in order to assist with campus recruiting efforts in Blacksburg and beyond. She is also a full time grad student at Radford University with an emphasis in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.
In her off time, Meghan enjoys outdoor activities and can be found kayaking on the river or hiking the beautiful mountains in Virginia.
