  2. Hmm.. What’s in it for the candidates (besides a job obviously)? Might help to include that in your marketing. Career Fairs are supposed to be about the candidates, and i’m not sensing too much incentive for candidates to get off their butts and apply for jobs, besides a cool event name like “rackpalooza” :) Seems like nothing different than if a candidate just applied to a job on any ole’ day. One of the best things about career fairs is that candidates get to make up in -person for shortcomings that may be on (or not on) their resume. Don’t really see any of the traditional benefits of a career fair in this event – it’s more just extra marketing for open jobs. Don’t even think you should call it a career fair unless you start telling them what’s in it for them….

ie: you’ll hear back within 24 hours, you’ll get an offer in hand the same day, you’ll get a cool rackspace mug just for interviewing :P

    Just my 2 cents!

  3. Johnny,

First off, thanks for stopping by!

Second, you make some great points. For RackPalooza II, we’ll be sure to articulate the benefits more.

Here are a few reasons why the event brings value to the candidates who attend.

    1. We have over 50 Rackers who will be on hand to interview candidates and coordinate the event – this should help to speed up the interviewing process for all parties involved.

    2. We are pre-screening candidates to save time for both parties. As we see it, the traditional career fair process can be very time consuming and disheartening. Prepare your resume, get all dressed up, show up to the event (nervously for some)… only to be told that you don’t meet the minimum technical qualifications… That doesn’t sound like a whole lot of fun for anyone. The pre-screening helps candidates avoid that kind of situation.

    3. In terms of an incentive for “candidates to get off their butts and apply for jobs,” I would hope that applying to Rackspace was a conscious decision. We are looking for people who want to be here, not people who are being tricked or prodded into applying.

Again, thanks for the feedback! I’ll definitely bring it back to the coordinating team for the next event!

    Have a great week!

    Michael
