What is IT hosting?
We’ll give you the answer we use at cocktail parties — the non-technical one that doesn’t cause people to walk away when you’re five minutes into your dissertation.
IT hosting is about the Internet and servers. Substantial websites and web-based applications need to run off of computer servers. Our customers, small companies and massive ones, lease their servers from us and we put those servers in our highly-secured data center buildings and on our network. Then we protect, maintain, service and optimize their servers and all the other software and hardware that we host for them.
Do I have to be a techie geek to work at Rackspace®
Absolutely not! You can be any kind of geek to work here. And when we say geek, we mean it as a compliment. If it weren’t for geeks there wouldn’t be computers or the Internet or Rackspace, for that matter. We hold geeks in high-esteem.
But back to the question at hand. No, you don’t have to be a techie geek to get a job at Rackspace. We have departments — Finance, HR, Marketing, Sales and Building Ops to name a few — that don’t require you to be a technology genius. You will learn about technology in these jobs as part of your day-to-day responsibilities, but by no means will you be expected to rebuild a server blindfolded.

Where is San Antonio?
San Antonio is in southwest Texas at the foot of the Texas Hill Country. You drive 20 minutes outside the city and you feel like you’re millions of miles away from the city.

If you’re not looking for the McMansion on the golf course, there are plenty of other types of housing and neighborhoods within San Antonio. We’ve got historical neighborhoods, urban lofts, gated communities, townhouses, ranches with land, high-rise condos and apartment complexes, all an easy commute to and from Rackspace.

Why does everyone keep talking about how “culturally diverse” San Antonio is?
They talk about it because you can’t walk down the street without it hitting you over the head. Everywhere you go there’s culture.
A lot of this has to do with Texas’ unique history, having lived under the flags of six nations, and San Antonio’s importance in the state’s history. In more modern times, San Antonio’s five military bases have attracted people from all over the world.
What’s the weather like in San Antonio?
Most of the time, especially in winter, spring and fall, San Antonio weather is very pleasant. There are a few weeks every summer where it is very hot. The kind of hot where you wish you hadn’t drunk a gallon of milk before you walked outside. But there’s AC everywhere, so no worries.
